ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—B.J. Upton(notes) has become the first player in Tampa Bay Rays history to hit for the cycle.
Friday night against the Yankees, Upton hit a three-run triple in the first inning off CC Sabathia(notes), then doubled off the Yankees ace in the third. After hitting a two-run homer off Jonathan Albaladejo(notes) in the fourth, he completed the cycle with a run-scoring single off David Robertson(notes) in the fifth.
It's about time someone hit for the cycle! Why couldn't this side of Upton show up earlier in the season? Oh well better late than never. I bet Yankees fans are coming up with excuses like the team planned this just to rest up their players for the Fall Classic blah, blah, blah, blah. Well get ready for the Big Draw (Niemann) tomorrow because it's going to be lights out at the Trop!
