Saint Brooks

METAIRIE, La. - Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks finally has a line on a new gig.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed Tuesday that Brooks is one of two linebackers who will arrive today for workouts.

"Typically we wait until they're here to comment on them, but Derrick will be one of those guys that we'll work out and Derek Smith will be the other one that we work out," Payton told reporters at the team's facility in Metairie, La.

The arrivals of Brooks and Smith were prompted by an injury to linebacker Mark Simoneau. Simoneau will be sidelined for at least several weeks with a torn triceps.

Please tell me that this not true. I would understand if it was the Patriots or the Steelers and him going to a winning team outside the division and conference to get another Super Bowl before he retires. I don't care how old the guy might be. This is not a guy that you want to face on the other side of the ball. Especially when you are thinking about starting a rookie QB. I still can't believe that the Bucs have not asked Brooks to take a hefty pay cut and just come back for a million bucks. The man is not only a legend on the field but he is a legend in the community. These are the kind of players that owners and coaches should be fighting over and not just throwing them out with the garbage. This is going to be a scary year for Tampa Bay I think. If we don't have a winning season in the next couple of years, the team just might pack up and move to Los Angelas or Vegas. So sure Brooks might be a Saint in our hearts but, I hope I never have to see him as Saint playing against the Bucs twice a year.
